Palm Zire 72 Handhelds

Media application disappears after a HotSync operation

If you are upgrading from a previous device that included the Palm Photos application, the new Media application may be overwritten by the Photos application in RAM. This application will show up as Photos-Foto and cannot be deleted from the handheld using the Delete command in the App menu.

There are two options for solving this issue.

The desktop method
Note: If you choose this method, you'll have to manually re-install any third-party software on your device. You may prefer to use the alternative method on the handheld, below.

  1. Perform a HotSync ® operation.
  2. Find your handheld's user folder on your desktop computer.
  3. In your user folder, right-click on the Backup folder and rename it "BackupOld."
  4. Perform a hard reset on your handheld.
  5. Make sure the HotSync Manager is running (how to do this).
  6. Right-click on the HotSync icon in the System Tray and select Custom.
  7. Change conduits to "Desktop Overwrites Handheld" for:
    • Contacts (Address Book)
    • Calendar (DateBook)
    • Memos
    • Tasks (To Do List)

  8. Click Done.
  9. Perform a HotSync operation.
  10. Reinstall any third-party applications manually.

The handheld method
Note: This method involves the use of a third-party file utility such as FileZ or Z'Catalog.

  1. Download an install a third-party file utility such as FileZ or Z'Catalog.
  2. Using the third-party file utility, delete the following files*:
    • Photos-Foto
    • Photos_Foto_enUS
    • PhotosDefaultDB-Foto
    • PhotoDefaultDBName_enUS

  3. Perform a HotSync operation.
